SLIPS (BACKPANEL)

These are small inserts to allow the opening dimension of the stone fireplace surround to be cut to required fire opening size.

CHAMBER

This is the opening inside the chimney breast, if a free standing fire basket or wood burning stove is to be used then the chamber can be lined with thin pieces of the same stone as the surround if required, or a different natural stone can be used such as slate.

Is a stone fireplace suitable for all types of fires?

All the types of stone we use for fireplaces are suitable for all types of fires with the exception of the Bath Limestone, which is not recommended for a hearth while using an open fire. This is due to the light cream colour, the softness and the open grain texture of the stone. The only recommendation for the three sandstones is that the hearth has a joint down the centre if using an open fire. This is to stop the hearth cracking due to the heat expansion of the stone- open fires produce a great amount of direct heat onto the fire hearth.

How do you clean the stone?

Use warm soapy water with a stiff scrubbing brush to clean any light stains/ marks on the stone. A fine grade wet & dry sandpaper will remove any stubborn marks or scratches – lightly rubbing in a large circle with water.

Anti stain sealant

A tub of anti – stain sealant is supplied with each stone fireplace – just in case of any mishaps. This is applied after fitting when stone fireplace is fully clean and dry. It protects against soot and coal, tea / coffee marks, water and solvent spills, keeping your stone fireplace looking new for many, many years.

Fitting

A nationwide fitting service is available for all stone fireplaces, please contact for prices and details. If you prefer to use your local fireplace fitter or competent builder then we can deliver only if required. Full fitting instructions, fixing brackets, pointing dust and stone sealant are all provided.

The colour and texture of the stone is slightly different from the sample or stone fireplaces in showroom?

Like all natural products, the colour and texture of the stone will vary slightly from piece to piece. Each type of natural stone has its own unique markings such as veining, grains, shells and fossils. This gives every stone fireplace and architectural stone products an individual beauty and distinctive appeal.
